Since I’m new here, now would be a good opportunity to share what I’m currently working on. Enter: Sophie’s Universe.
In August of 2020, I picked up this beautiful colorway from Loops & Threads Swirl Shawl called Peaches. Thinking I had about a month before my daughter was due, I had chosen it to make her a baby blanket and picked up 4 skeins.
Surprise! My daughter came 4 days after my purchase and it took me until late February to decide on a pattern. Top choices were a virus blanket, or Sophie’s Universe.
I picked up my hook about two and a half weeks ago and got to work on Sophie.
She is the most intricate piece I’ve worked on. At little over halfway through, I can certainly say this CAL has had me work the biggest variety of stitches, not only in any one project, but likely all my projects behind.
Popcorns, tulips, front post double/treble/double trebles, roses, fans, petals, leaves – so many wonderful aspects to this piece. It has worked up beautifully – even though I’ve had to frog in a few places because my stitch counts weren’t quite right.
She is already bigger than your standard baby blanket, but I remain adamant that it will make a perfect keepsake for my daughter as she grows.
If you’d like to make your own, the pattern can be found here: Sophie’s Universe CAL 2015. Dedri includes very in-depth instructions and has fantastic resources to help along the way, including photo and video guides.
